Wouldn’t infinite life also be infinitely boring? The assumption that human mortality is a precondition for a desirable life is widespread - but can it be maintained?
Marianne Kreuels takes a look at various arguments in favour of this position, as presented by Bernard Williams and Martha Nussbaum among others, and shows that they are not persuasive. Based on numerous demonstrative thought experiments in her perceptive essay, she draws the conclusion that even an infinite life can be a desirable life which – apart, of course, from its length – must not differ from the life of a mortal.
