Theodor Storm was born on September 14, 1817 in Husum near Schlesweig and died of stomach cancer on July 4, 1888 in Hademarschen near Holst. From 1837 to 1842 he studied law in Kiel and accepted a position as a lawyer in Husum one year later. In 1846, he married his cousin Konstanze Esmarch. He had seven children with her; Konstanze died giving birth to their last child. Shortly after his wedding Storm met Dorothea Jensen, with whom he had a passionate relationship and who would become his second wife. Due to political reasons, he was removed from his position in 1852, after which he worked as an unpaid assessor in Potsdam. He met Franz Kugler, Theodor Fontane, Joseph von Eichendorff and Paul Heyse. He began working as a judge in Heiligenstadt in 1856 and became a district magistrate...
