»Axel Honneth has found wide reverberation with his socio-philosophical work. (...) In the perception of the profession Honneth stands next to such philosophers as Martha Nussbaum, Robert Pippin, Avishai Margalit, Judith Butler. That his books find such considerable resonance betrays as much about the substance of theory as about the authorial talent of the writer.« Jürgen Habermas, Die Zeit

About
This volume moves the broad debate forward that has been taking place in the framework of political philosophy and has hinged on the concept of recognition and how it relates to theories of justice.
Nancy Fraser suggests that a politico-philosophical focus on the structure of the concept of recognition means that the what are still highly controversial questions of redistribution tend to get backgrounded. By contrast, Axel Honneth sets out to show that the questions of just distribution can better be clarified in normative terms if they are reformulated in the framework of a sufficiently differentiated concept of recognition. Thanks to this clear controversy and juxtaposed positions, the present volume tackles a number of issues in politics, social theory and of a normative nature.
