Deniz Utlu receives the Literary Prize of the City of Hannover

WintermorgenDeniz Utlu

The jury honours the writer born in Hannover in 1983 both for his debut novel Die Ungehaltenen as well as for his work as a playwright, columnist, poet, essayist, editor, and event organizer.

From the jury’s statement: »With his texts Deniz Utlu trenchantly and vividly deals with the fundamental topics of identity, family, and belonging. In his debut, Die Ungehaltenen, he tells the story of two descendants of the gastarbeiter generation and their examination of that generation; people who have contributed to building up Germany but who have never received any public recognition for it. His book gives voice to the reality of life of both generations.«

On September 9, 2019, Suhrkamp Verlag is going to publish Deniz Utlu’s second novel, Towards Morning.
