We are excited to announce that Melinda Nadj Abonji has been awarded the ZKB Schiller Award 2018 for Schildkrötensoldat.

From the jury's statement: »The tortoise soldier, the hero of Melinda Nadj Abonji's novel, belongs to those unforgettable figures in literature who expand our knowledge of human beings. Zoltán Kertész, a representative victim of marginalisation and brutal spite, sees the world in his extremely personal way, incisively and imaginatively at the same time. And when the novel allows us to take part in the way this heir to Büchner's Woyzeck creates his world through words, it also shows us what literature, and literature alone, can do.«

The ZKB Schiller Award is awarded yearly and is endowed with 10.000 Swiss Francs in total.
