About

Imagine inheriting 2 billion Dollars. From your mortal enemy.

Police officer Jenny Aaron, blinded during a failed mission in Barcelona years ago, has escaped death only barely after the worst thirty-six hours of her life and is looking for shelter with her father’s friend in Sweden. Aaron doesn’t know which way to go: She has the standing offer to re-join the Department, the secret elite unit she used to belong to before she lost her eye-sight. But at what cost? She clings to the hope of regaining her sight – without knowing whether that will remain nothing but a dream. Then Aaron receives a message that shatters all her dreams for the future: Her mortal enemy has left her an enormous fortune – behind which a gruesome secret is hiding. In order to be completely certain, she needs to go to Marrakech. And that’s where all hell breaks loose...

Following Once And For All, Andreas Pflüger sends his heroine Jenny Aaron halfway across the world in a new breath-taking thriller and forces her to face her biggest fear. Everything she ever held dear – the relationship with her father, her unwavering belief in friendship and her loyalty to the Department – is raised to question.

Praise

»In The Dark has restored my faith in Noir, what a novel, moves with the speed of accelerated art, a flawless translation from the German and a heroine to equal the recent spate of flawed realistic characters. I learnt so much about blindness that is truly not only inspirational but deeply moving. Never will I hear a tongue click without thinking of flipper and the sonar abilities of the human spirit. That this is the first in a series is superb news and why this novel isn't first in every one's top ten is a travesty. A rare and rarest magnificent book.« Ken Bruen on In the Dark

»Andreas Pflüger is a master of precision. Everything in his stories, up until the smallest cog, is connected and intertwined. If he were a watchmaker, he would surely have invented the watch that tells us the time backwards. He doesn’t write, he works magic.« Dominique Horwitz

»Pflüger writes in a league of his own, violent, with powerful eloquence and great delicacy. Brilliant, addictive.« Rose-Maria Gropp, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

»Almost provocatively literary for a thriller … Pflüger creates a world of visual impressions using tiny details, only to have it disappear, taking the deceptive safety it had created with it.« Nicolas Freund, Süddeutsche Zeitung

»Andreas Pflüger is one of the world’s best thriller writers.« Tobias Gohlis, Krimibestenliste

»Andreas Pflüger leaves the American and English stars of his generation far behind.« Joachim Scholl, Deutschlandfunk

»What makes Andreas Pflüger’s novels into page turners is the attention to detail … There is no other German language crime writer who whips individual sentences, images and scenes into shape as precisely as he does …until the shimmering authenticity effect becomes visible that is the foundation for convincing literary ‘action’.« Kolja Mensing, Deutschlandfunk Kultur

»Rarely has such a delicate heart beat in a hardcore thriller.« Elmar Krekeler, DIE WELT

»A very modern, very refined, very intelligently plotted thriller, which establishes a connection between organised crime, politics, economy and terror, and poses awkward questions – all in a very entertaining yet highly literary manner … I am delighted! « Ulrich Noller, WDR 3

»Never is suspense crime of the highest level, perfectly cut like the Koh-i-Noor.« Alf Mayer, der Freitag 45/2017

»It’s been a long time since I read a crime novel with a protagonist who is so multi-faceted and has such a complex background story as Jenny Aaron … In my opinion, Andreas Pflüger is the best German crime author there is.« Gert Scobel, 3sat

»Never is a story that sweeps across the reader like a storm: loud, colourful, overwhelming.« Emmanuel van Stein, Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger

»Never is a white-knuckle plot linked to the international mafia, which goes way beyond James Bond style activities primarily because of the careful psychological depiction of the men and women set around the blind female Zen fighter … a furious continuation of In the Dark.« Lore Kleinert, BücherMagazin
