Dear colleagues and friends,
»The tasks of a literary publisher may have changed as far as the details of the on-going process of literary communication are concerned, but on the whole they have remained the same: to be ready for the author, for the originality of his work, and to contribute to his significance.« This is what Siegfried Unseld wrote in 1978.
We all know how much the profile of an author changes after his work has been translated into other languages. Thank you for your continuous efforts in promoting our authors over the past decades.
Clearly, this is a joint endeavour. The books of 400 Suhrkamp authors have each been translated into more than 10 languages while the works of our greatest authors of literature, social sciences, and humanities have been made available in more than 40 languages.
We would like to continue along this path and look forward to working with you for many years to come.
