After a longer time (of reflection), Peter Sloterdijk has succumbed to the inevitable. No one who has read Lines and Days, the previous book that was hyped by readers and reviewers, could resist demanding a sequel. Nor the temptation to make the private public, and vice versa.

After a longer time (of reflection), Peter Sloterdijk has succumbed to the inevitable. No one who has read Lines and Days, the previous book that was hyped by readers and reviewers, could resist demanding a sequel. Nor the temptation to make the private public, and vice versa.
His notes stand out from those of the blogger and internet-diary writers through their analytical precision, the power of his words, the awareness of language, the erudition, aphorisms, humour, the lyrical tone… Each day Peter Sloterdijk observes the sense and purpose of daily note-taking on time and people and explains himself in a characteristically ironic fashion: »Why? I am probably living beneath the gaze of a transcendental observer, who doesn’t have a particularly high opinion of me. My inner observer is no journalist.«
If Goethe can publish New Songs and Heine and Rilke New Poems, then Peter Sloterdijk can definitely publish New Lines and Days. They establish, away from rough jotters, sketchbooks, or collections of ideas, a genre of their own with a name: the archiving of the lived and reflected-upon day.
»[Sloterdijk] is an artist who with all of his remarks shows that he is juggling more than one ball. He not only thinks politically, but in aesthetic, cultural-philosophical, anthropological and theological categories. Above all, however, he is a master of deftly shifting between his various frames of reference.« Wiener Zeitung
»New Lines and Days is a majestic blend of social novel and social analysis.« DIE ZEIT
»Sloterdijk records his impressions, his epiphanies, shines as an aphorist, writes miniatures, observes himself and the world, observes himself in the world, is himself the world. He presents himself as a fulgent columnist in whom the various disciplines flow into one another.« neues deutschland
»A breath-taking tour de force through past and present, philosophy and literature, daily life and culture, always plentifully garnished with a cheeky sense of arrogance – Peter Sloterdijk constantly ups the ante.« Hamburger Abendblatt

Peter Sloterdijk was born in 1947 and is professor emeritus of Aesthetics and Philosophy at the Institute of Design in Karlsruhe. The unmistakable characteristic of Peter Sloterdijk’s thought and writings is the way he embeds current issues in a long history. This way, he succeeds in redefining the current human condition, visualizes it from a hitherto unknown perspective, and finds evidence for unexpected or unsought connections. His book Kritik der zynischen Vernunft is one of the biggest-selling philosophical books of the 20th century.

For half a century, Peter Sloterdijk has been recording thoughts, experiences and comments on current events every morning; since 2012, he has published two books with dated notes from this trove – to the enthusiasm of his readers and critics: »Opinions that know how to amaze, to illuminate and enlighten.« (FAZ) The notes in the latest instalment of this...
From time immemorial, man has had to organise his »metabolism with nature«. For Marx, the most important factor in this process was labour. When Prometheus, according to the myth,...

Detours are the most direct paths to the centre. Peter Sloterdijk’s new work is proof of this theory: Located beyond topicality, theopoetics is, on first glance, about the attempts to make God or...
