About

A guide to learning how to leave enough room for unhappiness, with plenty of comfort-ing examples and facts.

It seems everything has already been said about happiness. But what about unhappiness? The overwhelming discourse on happiness has largely neglected its dark side. Instead, it has given rise to a new kind of obligation: the obligation to be happy. For many, the constant stress of trying to find happiness actually has the opposite effect. And what about all those for whom happiness can never be more than a dream?
Wilhelm Schmid takes a critical stance towards the happiness debate, to which he himself contributed with his 2007 bestseller Happiness, where he argued that there were more important things in life than being happy. Now he has undertaken a vindication of unhappiness. Coupled with suggestions for how better to deal with it.
