Marion Poschmann on the shortlist for the Man Booker International Prize 2019

We are excited to announce that Marion Poschmann is on the shortlist for the 2019 Man Booker International Prize with her novel Die Kieferninseln.

The Man Booker International Prize is awarded annually for a single work of fiction, translated into English and published in the UK. The £50,000 prize is divided equally between the author and the translator. The winner will be announced on May 21.

From the statement of the jury: »The Pine Islands is a serene, playful, profoundly moving story of the transformations we seek and the ones we find along the way.« The German edition of Die Kieferninseln was on the shortlist for the German Book Prize in 2017. It has also been on the best book lists with SWR and ORF and was on the bestseller lists of SPIEGEL, Focus, Stern and Börsenblatt. Overall sales of the German editions of Die Kieferninseln amount to more than 50.000 copies.

Marion Poschmann was born in Essen in 1969 and currently lives in Berlin. Her works of poetry and prose have been honoured many times. Her volume of poetry Geliehene Landschaften was nominated for the Prize of the Leipzig Book Fair 2016. Her novel Die Kieferninseln was shortlisted for the German Book Prize in 2017 and for the International Booker Prize in 2019.
