The cross-generational experience of being defined by externally ascribed ideas repeats itself. Akın Emanuel Şipal bursts open these ascriptions in language and concept and dialogically explores the limits of fiction and autobiography anew.

Persons

Akın Emanuel Şipal, born in Essen in 1991, studied film at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg. He won the national competition »In Zukunft« with his debut play Vor Wien in 2012 and was subsequently awarded the Förderpreis Literatur der Kulturbehörde Hamburg for Santa Monica. Şipal has co-written various short and feature films which have been shown at festivals such as Films du Monde de Montréal (Prix du Jury for The Bicycle), Shanghai International Film Festival and Cairo International Film Festival. In the 2016/17 season, Şipal was the playwright-in-residence at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. From 2017 to 2019 he was playwright-in-residence at the Theater Bremen.
