Johann Peter Hebel, born in Basel in 1760, was an author, theologian and pedagogue. His most famous works include, next to the Allemanische Gedichte, the Schatzkästlein des rheinischen Hausfreundes, a selection of his most famous calendar stories. Hebel died in Schwetzingen in 1826.
