She loved many men, but she lived alone in her apartment in the Ritz. She was recruited by a German officer to spy for the Nazis, for which she was shunned and reviled by the French after the war. With the help of Winston Churchill, she was rehabilitated – making a victoriuos comeback in the world of fashion .

And even now, decades after her death, her legend lives on.
