Michael Krüger’s new story about a gentleman with rather bad manners

The comedy of a rogue who must be feared

Entertaining, surprising, amusing

»You were never sure who you were…«
Everyone seems to know him, but no one knows his name. And those who don’t know him yet are desperate to meet him. Only the narrator, who has been joined by the gentleman with bad manners, wants to get rid of him. Everyone seems to know him, but no one knows his name. And those who don’t know him yet are desperate to meet him. Only the narrator, who has been joined by the gentleman with bad manners, wants to get rid of him. He imposed himself on the narrator at Paris Airport, is already lodging in his flat back in Munich, is sitting at his desk preparing a film in the artists’ agency the narrator runs. Who is this strange guest who suddenly appears in the room as if in a Gogol story and upsets everything with his mere presence? In the end, just as people are about to get wise to him, Jonah disappears for good.

Could it be that some people are secretly waiting for the arrival of a character that is going to put them off their stride? Michael Krüger’s adventurous chronicle of ongoing events shows that the assurance with which we lead our thoroughly rationalised lives is a fiction.
»Michael Krüger's ›world observatory‹ is currently one of the most exciting outposts of society. He has a gift for illuminating things in a different, new light. And for making the world more transparent.« Roman Bucheli, Neue Zürcher Zeitung

»... this is the wonderfully literary story of a man always living at a self-deprecating distance, who in the end approaches this unknown entity, as troublesome as it is great, in a very touching way.« Sabine Dultz, Münchner Merkur

»With this psychological duel between two old men, Michael Krüger transcends his own mortality, elevates it to a fascinating grotesque presented in an elevated tone.« Jan Drees, Deutschlandfunk

»What Happened in the Two Weeks After Returning from Paris is a small masterpiece [...] As long as books like this exist there is pleasure in reading!« Ö1
