Where Do You Come From?

To escape the threat of arrest by the authorities, Natalja flees Russia with her children. At the asylum seekers' centre in Bavaria, she is met with hostility. And yet her new life is like one big exhale. The feeling of being freed from fear makes it easier to deal with the difficulties. Her older daughter needs help because she’s slipping into depression. The younger one asks if she can say she’s a girl from Kyiv so that she doesn’t get shunned at school.

Natalja begins to carry out interviews with the Ukrainians in her German class, and later with Iraqi and Syrian refugees. In the end, we get a glimpse of something like a utopia of arriving in a community of the unrooted.
