Henri Matisse’s Years in Issy
In 1909 Henri Matisse became fed up with the hustle and bustle of Paris and moved to Issy-les-Moulineaux – only six kilometres from the capital. A small park connected to the two-storey mansion that would become the new centre of his life and in that park Marisse established his »studio in the countryside«. He hosted his artist friends and gallery owners in Issy, and it also saw the creation of works such as Dance and The Red Studio.
