Was it really such a good idea to leave Germany for this Swiss village in the middle of nowhere? After his partner dies in an accident, an overwhelmed father moves with his infant daughter and her plucky great-grandmother to the place where the child’s mother was born. Under the suspicious eyes of the villagers, they piece together their new life. In this place, even the houses have eyes and ears, village life is held together by rituals that go back centuries, and outsiders are expected to learn Swiss German before they try to make themselves heard.

With an absurd sense of humour, sharply sketched characters, captivating imagery and his idiosyncratic narrative sound, Wolfram Höll conjures up a magical backdrop, telling a story of overcoming grief, of integration, and of finding a place in a world that is increasingly shaped by the effects of an aging population and climate change.
