The 2024 Literature Prize of the State of Saxony has been awarded to Suhrkamp author Angela Krauß. The decision was made a fiver-person jury made up of the journalists Katrin Wenzel (jury chair) and Karin Großmann, poet Jayne-Ann Igel, literary critic and author Burkhard Müller, and former director of the Leipzig Book Fair Oliver Zille.

In their official statement, the jury described Angela Krauß as a »cautious storyteller. Big plots are not her thing. Rather, her storytelling embarks on a search – for those moments in which the whole becomes visible, revealing a glimpse of what lies beneath the surface. The outcome is literature that can be regarded as entirely unique, combining sparkling linguistic ability and philosophical reflection.«

Saxony’s Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch said in her words of congratulation that Angela Krauß is »an important author who reflects intelligently on the personal and the social in a clear, rich language that makes reading a pleasure ... In Angela Krauß, a figure is being honoured whose literary work has an impact far beyond the state of Saxony.«

The prize is endowed with €10,000 and the award ceremony will take place in Leipzig in autumn.

Kauß's most recent book, The World Building Must Be Erected. After All, We Have to Live Somewhere. was published in March 2024. For more information on this or other titles by Angela Krauß, please contact the rights manager for your region
