Christoph Hein awarded the 2019 Prix du Meilleur livre étranger

We are proud to announce that this year’s winner of the Prix du Meilleur livre étranger in the category »Novel« is Suhrkamp author Christoph Hein with Glückskind mit Vater, »[a] compassionate and honest review of human failings – and virtues« (New Books in German).

The novel was translated by Nicole Bary and published by Métailié under the title L’Ombre d’un père.

On November 20th, the jury unveiled the two winners of the Prix du Meilleur livre étranger, which will be awarded on November 28th.

Christoph Hein, born in 1944, lives in Berlin. He is the author of novels, novellas, short stories, plays, essays and children’s books. His most recent novels were on the Spiegel bestseller list for weeks. His most recent awards include the 2019 Prix du Meilleur livre étranger (for Glückskind mit Vater), the 2019 Samuel Bogumił Linde Prize and the 2017 Grimmelshausen Prize.
