Suhrkamp author Christoph Hein celebrates his 80th birthday on 8 April 2024. Hein grew up in what was then East Germany, where he began writing novels, novellas, short stories, plays, essays and children’s books. He has won numerous awards for his work over the years, which has been translated into many languages.

His most recent publications with Suhrkamp are the novel Under the Dust of Time, as well as a new edition of his children’s classic, The Wild Horse Under the Stove.

His most recent novels were on the Spiegel bestseller list for weeks. His most recent awards include the 2019 Prix du Meilleur livre étranger (for Glückskind mit Vater), the 2019 Samuel Bogumił Linde Prize and the 2017 Grimmelshausen Prize.
