Dana Vowinckel is one of five finalists selected for the 2023 aspekte-Literaturpreis for her debut novel, The World in a Ziplock Bag.

The aspekte-Literaturpreis has been awarded by ZDF since 1979 to the year's best German-language prose debut. The winner receives a cash prize of EUR 10,000, and previous laureates include Herta Müller, Katja Petrowskaja, Ingo Schulze, Zsuzsa Bánk, Eugen Ruge, Deniz Ohde, and Ariane Koch. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony on 19 October 2023 at the Frankfurter Buchmesse.

Dana Vowinckel was born in Berlin in 1996 into an American-Jewish-German family. She grew up bilingually and biculturally between Chicago and Berlin, and studied linguistics and literature in Berlin, Toulouse, and Cambridge. Her debut novel Misophonia won, amongst others, the Mara Cassens Prize and the literature prize of the Association of Arts and Culture of the German Economy, and was shortlisted for the prestigious Leipzig Book Fair Prize. She lives in Berlin.
