Gertrud Leutenegger is awarded the Solothurner Literaturpreis 2023.
The five members of the jury honour the Schwyz-born author (*1948) for her œuvre. Gertrud Leutenegger has been publishing novels, essays, poetry and plays since 1975.
The jury states:
»Gertrud Leutenegger is an author whose work persistently and impressively combines personal experience with her perception of the world. In a somnambulistic and at the same time lucid narrative, Gertrud Leutenegger explores human existence in a timeless way. She formulates attitudes without judgement, in a very unique, evocative style. She gifts readers with iridescent experiences of language and the world as well as a space for reflection that oscillates between seriousness and play, in which one’s own experience can also be put to the test.«
The Solothurner Literaturpreis honours authors whose works exert their influence far beyond the realms of German-language literature. The prize is not awarded for an individual book but for an author’s œuvre that stands out due to its literary quality, artistic individuality and the relevance of its content. The prize is endowed with 15,000 Swiss franc. Previous winners include Peter Bichsel, Christoph Hein, Karen Duve, Terézia Mora, Thomas Hettche, Juli Zeh, Jenny Erpenbeck and Birgit Vanderbeke. This year’s award ceremony will be held on May 21, 2023.
