News15.09.2021
We are pleased to announce that Judith Schalansky has won the Premio Strega Europeo 2020 for An Inventory of Losses.
The prize is awarded each year by a jury made up of twenty Italian writers as well as past winners and finalists of the Premio Strega Europeo. Five authors recently translated into Italian who have achieved important national recognition in their countries compete against one another: Five voices representing different literary traditions and linguistic fields, and five modes of exploring the possible scope of the contemporary novel.
The Premio Strega Europeo, was launched in 2014 to spread knowledge about some of the most original and powerful voices in contemporary literature as part of the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, is sponsored by the Maria e Goffredo Bellonci Foundation, the Strega Alberti Benevento company, the Istituzione Biblioteche Roma and the Casa delle Letterature Roma, in collaboration with BPER Banca, the International Book Fair and Circolo dei Lettori in Turin.
Due to the pandemic, the 2020 award ceremony took place behind closed doors. Judith Schalansky will therefore be present at the Turin International Book Fair together with the finalists for this year's ceremony in 2021.
The previous recipients of the award are David Diop, Fernando Aramburu, Jenny Erpenbeck, Annie Ernaux, Katja Petrowskaja and Marcos Giralt Torrente.
