We are delighted to announce that the Polish edition of Judith Schalansky's book An Inventory of Losses has been shortlisted for the Angelus Award, one of the major awards for works of literary prose from Central Europe. Translated by Kamil Idzikowski, the book was published by Ha!art in 2022 under the title Spis paru strat. The prize is awarded annually by the city of Wrocław for outstanding works of contemporary literature written or translated into Polish by authors from Central Europe. The winner receives a cash prize of PLN 150,000 (EUR 35,000). Previous winners include Svetlana Alexievich, Serhiy Zhadan, Péter Esterházy, Georgi Gospodinov, and Yuriy Andrukhovych.

Since the German original was published in 2018, An Inventory of Losses has been translated into more than 20 different languages and received various international prizes, and has been nominated for many more, including the International Booker Prize. Just recognition for this remarkable book. The decision of the jury, headed by Austrian writer and journalist Martin Pollack, is set to be announced at an awards ceremony in Wrocław on October 14, 2023. Our fingers are crossed.

Judith Schalansky, born in Greifswald in 1980, lives in Berlin where she works as a writer, editor and book designer. Her work has been translated into more than twenty languages and has won several prizes. Verzeichnis einiger Verluste received the Premio Strega Internazionale 2020 and was longlisted for the 2021 International Booker Prize and the Europese Literatuurprijs 2021.
