Julia Jost has been shortlisted for the ZDF »aspekte« Literature Prize 2024 for her novel Hide and Seek.

A total of four finalists have made it onto the jury’s shortlist, which is awarded to the best literary debut of the year written in German. ZDF has been awarding the prize since 1979. Previous prize-winners include figures such as Deniz Ohde, Vea Kaiser, Katja Petrowskaja, Ingo Schulze, Stephan Thome, and later Nobel Prize–winner Herta Müller.

The winner receives a cash prize of €10,000, to be awarded at a public event at the Frankfurt Book Fair on 19 October 2024.

Julia Jost was born in 1982 in Carinthia, Austria, and studied philosophy, sculpture, and theatre directing. She has worked as a director and dramaturge in artist-run spaces and at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. In 2019, she won the Kelag-Preis for an excerpt from her book Hide and Seek. Her play ROM will premiere at the Volkstheater Wien in April 2024. She divides her time between Vienna and Berlin.
