Insel author Barbara Beuys passed away on 19 June 2025 at the age of 81.

Barbara Beuys was born in 1943, and after completing a PhD in history, worked as an editor for publications such as Stern, Merian and Die Zeit. She published more than 20 books, in which she recounted biographies and perspectives from the Nazi era in new and gripping ways. She is known for her biographies and historical works, in which she focused primarily on female figures. These include her books about Sophie Scholl, Asta Nielsen, and Mala Zimetbaum. In 2017, she was awarded the Luise Büchner Prize for Journalism, in recognition of »for her important contribution to women's historiography«.
