On the Death of Gerhard Wolf

Gerhard Wolf died on February 7, 2023, at the age of 94.
The author and publisher was born on October 16, 1928, in Bad Frankenhausen and lived in Berlin for most of his life. Gerhard Wolf met Christa Wolf, née Ihlenfeld, at university, where he was reading German Philology and History. The two were married in 1951. In 1990, he founded the publishing house Gerhard Wolf Janus Press, where he published young, nonconformist poets and artists from the GDR. Wolf has been awarded the Heinrich-Mann-Preis and der Rahel-Varnhagen-von-Ense-Medaille, among others, for his works and efforts as a publisher.
