The painter, illustrator and author Hans Traxler passed away on August 24, 2026 in Frankfurt am Main at the age of 97.

Born on March 21, 1929, he was one of the founders of the satirical magazines Pardon and Titantic and worked at both magazines for many years. His work was also printed in Zeit-Magazin, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Insel Verlag published many of his illustrated poems and stories, most recently Die Bildergedichte (2025), Von Schutzengeln und Teufeln (2023) and Mama, warum bin ich kein Huhn in the Insel Bücherei series (2019).

For his body work he was awarded, among other honours, the Wilhelm-Busch-prize and the Friedrich-Stoltze-prize.

Insel Verlag mourns the loss of its author.

Hans Traxler was born in Herrlich, a village in northern Bohemia, in 1929, and passed away in 2026. He was a painter, illustrator and author, who received numerous prizes for his œuvre, among them the Wilhelm Busch Prize in 2015 and the Sondermann Prize 2017.
