Until now, we have chosen to ignore the consequences of global warming in the blind hope that our politicians and engineers will come up with solutions once the problems have become sufficiently pressing. A more realistic response would be to pose, as Friedrich von Borries does, the following question: How will we adapt when climate change has become an irreversible reality?
Von Borries has sketched a world where the rich live in sealed-off Capsule Cities while the poor guard desert Solar Parks or wait on floating rescues islands. In nine fictional portraits, he presents us the protagonists of this Capsule World: the Architect, the Refugee, the Sun Master, and more. We are already familiar with parts of this future, which have been introduced to us through film, art, and design; the Glossary in the second part of the book provides an overview of past projects in which artists, directors, and architects have addressed the topic of climate change.
