On 21 August 2024, Friedrich von Borries, theorist of design and architecture, curator, novelist, and Suhrkamp author, will celebrate his 50th birthday. Trained as an architect, von Borries teaches at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg and has published books on a variety of themes and in various genres, from cultural theory and architectural history to novels. His recent publications include Caught in the Titotality: The Bauhaus Architect Franz Ehrlich, written together with long-time collaborator Jens-Uwe Fischer, and his novel Festival of Inconsequentiality.

In November of 2024, Borries will publish a major new work, Architecture in the Anthropocene: A speculative Archaeology, in which the author attempts to understand humanity’s relationship with the environment and the climate by way of our architectural constructions.
