Beitrag zu Suhrkamp Verlag Congratulates Barbi Marković on Winning the Prize of the Leipzig Book Fair
Suhrkamp congratulates Serbian author Barbi Marković on taking out the fiction prize in Leipzig for her book Minihorror. Born in Belgrade in 1980, Marković has been based in Vienna since 2006, and has puiblished books in both Serbian and German. In 2016, Suhrkamp published the German edition of her book Going Out, translated by Mascha Dabic, an appropriation of Thomas Bernhard’s work Walking. Marković composed Going Out by translating Bernhard’s classic text into Serbian, at the same time transporting the plot from Bernhard’s Vienna to postwar Belgrade.

The Prize of the Leipzig Book Fair is endowed with €60,000 in total, and has been awarded by a seven-person jury since the first Leipzig Book Fair in 2005, and recognises outstanding new releases in the categories of fiction, non-fiction/essay, and translation.
