Burak Yilmaz

Burak Yilmaz, born in Duisburg in 1986 to Turkish-Kurdish parents, lives in Duisburg where he works as an independent educator. Among other things, he initiated the project Young Muslims in Auschwitz and heads the theatre group Die Blickwandler. He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by Frank-Walter Steinmeier for his multifaceted commitment to fighting anti-Semitism and to fostering an inclusive culture of remembrance.

Burak Yılmaz grew up in Duisburg as the child of immigrants. His educational path – elite Catholic high school, Qur’anic school, university – traverses milieus, and his later work would lead to dangerous convictions.
