Derviş Hızarcı

Derviş Hızarcı was born in Berlin in 1983 and has been running the Berlin-based initiative against anti-Semitism (KIgA) since 2015. He has worked as a teacher, was chair of the supervisory board of the Turkish community in Berlin, and served as an anti-discrimination officer for the Berlin Senate. Since 2019, he has been a member of the advisory board of the Federal Government Commissioner for Jewish Life in Germany and the Fight against Anti-Semitism. He was awarded the Medal of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for his social engagement. Derviş Hızarcı regularly gives interviews and publishes articles in publications such as Jüdische Allgemeine, taz and Süddeutsche Zeitung. A passionate amateur footballer, he plays for Makkabi Berlin.
