Roland Hetzer

Prof. Dr. med. Roland Hetzer was born near Karlovy Vary in 1944. He studied medicine in Mainz and Munich. In 1971 he began his training to become a specialist surgeon as a research assistant at the Hanover Medical School. In 1985, he established the Herzzentrum Berlin at the FU Berlin as its head physician of cardiac surgery and medical director. Hetzer has received numerous awards, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
