F. Scott Fitzgerald wurde 1896 in St. Paul/Minnesota geboren. Mit seinem ersten Roman Diesseits vom Paradies (1920) wurde er schlagartig berühmt und bewegte sich fortan in gehobenen Kreisen. Der große Gatsby erschien 1925 und ist bis heute sein erfolgreichster Roman. F. Scott Fitzgerald lebte verschwenderisch, verfiel dem Alkohol und litt an Depressionen. 1937 ging er als Drehbuchautor nach Hollywood, wo er 1940 starb.
